CB-UNIX

Edition 2.3

CB-UNIX Programmer's Manual

The CB-UNIX Programmer's Manual, like the PWB manuals, contains an acknowledgements page. In the case of Edition 2.3, this acknowledges the research versions 6 and 7 manuals as well as the PWB 1.0 manual. Of note, the acknowledgements mentions the PWB User's Manual of 1977, but many pages throughout the manual instead refer to PWB 2.0, from 1979. This manual was prepared by J.D. Doan. There are some changes in the sections from the version 7 manual:

  6. UNIX System Explanations
  7. Kinks and Conventions
  8. Stand-Alone Utilities

In addition to these group changes, the scanned manual above includes many local pages included in each section, suffixed with an “L”. Additionally SCCS commands are provided under “S” and games, displaced from section 6, have moved to “X”. Section 3 groups any remaining commands in a “C” group. This is also seen in the PWB line. Similarly, all sections have an intro(x) page as of this edition. Finally, like the PWB 1.0 manual, this manual features a Saul Bass Bell System logo on the cover page.

Pictured above are binders containing the CB-UNIX Programmer's Manual. These were uploaded as public domain to WikiMedia by user Lvcipriani here. It is unknown whether these are the binders the above scans originate from or represent a different edition.
