UNIX Program Generic Issue 1, otherwise known as PG-1C300, is a version of the UNIX operating system issued by the UNIX Support Group in November of 1974. The Program Generic line was used as a standard, supported UNIX base on which to base other projects and supply a computing environment to a larger group of users than the Research group could support.
This version appears to be comparable to Fourth Edition Unix, albeit retaining some components from earlier Research versions and incorporating some new features that would show up in later systems of other branches. In particular, a reorganization of source files was undertaken upon establishing the Program Generic line.
